Innishkea Island Currach

The Inniskea is an excellent example of currach development, standing
midway between the primitive earlier vessels and the innovative
double gunwhale of later structures. Innishkea is
an exposed island off the coast of Mayo. It is no longer inhabited
CONSTRUCTION:
The boat is fully
planked with 3/8" spruce covered in tarred canvas. Construction was
based on a study by James Hornell from 1936 augmented by fieldwork
from the currach survey team in teh areas where the islanders
settled
