The Achill Island Currach

(curach h Oileán Acla)

The boat features a double gunwale structure, using the inverted method. A notable feature of the boat is the fact that almost no full rib has been fitted, rather half lengths which overlap. The three thwarts also have wooden supports which sit on a keelson, a strip of 3 x 2 running the length of the boat.
